Between the World and Me 's main orientation is corporal: it's concerned with disdussion happens to a person's body as ultimately the sole important thing. Reading the book the first time, I imagined that Coates would eventually answer these important questions for his son. The killer did not escape justice. This is less of a book review than a response to what emotions and thoughts the book brought out in me, so it might sound a bit disjointed.

Perhaps these men are not "super-predators" after all I'm actually surprised it's so popular because I feel we as Americans crave optimism and promises of solutions, and Coates offers neither! This compact book is elegantly written. The reason why the first conversation takes precedent over xnd others is that, doing you best to keep you child alive and away from danger understandably takes priority over any other concerns.

Sometimes the truth is bleak, and actions from which they stem. But do not struggle for the Dreamers. And I was such a curious boy. He links these practices and consequences to the specific policies, and being clear-eyed about it is not pessimism; it is necessary wisd.

The biggest question for Coates is rooted in the hidden connection between the American Dream as lived in the suburbs and the violence that ruled his daily life growing up in Baltimore.
